NCPMI What is a Prompt?
Prompts are instructions, gestures, demonstrations, touches, or other things we can do to increase the likelihood that infants and toddlers will begin to respond correctly. Prompting can help infants and toddlers begin to understand how to complete tasks that might otherwise be too difficult, or contain multiple or complex steps. Supporting infants and toddlers using prompts (and providing positive descriptive feedback) helps them learn to complete tasks independently.
